In earlier times, the shawl was essentially a male garment and the gift of a woolen shawl was a mark of respect. In the Indian tradition, saints, sages and teacher were honoured with presentation of a shawl, and till today the master craftsmen of India are publicly draped with them as a sign of national homage to their art. The dasturs of priests of the Parsi Fire Temples wear a woolen shawl around their waist on ritual occasions; and the priests of Hindu temples offered shawls to princesand benefactors as a token of their blessings. In the tribal areas of the North East, honoured guests were presented with the finest examples of local craftsmanship. In royal courts, kings gifted shawls to their nobles as a mark of favour; and the exchange of costly shawls between rulers was part of ceremonial protocol.
Excellent and rapis service and th shawl is really beautiful and just what I hoped for. Thank you.

Hand Painted Square Silk Scarf is extremely soft and flowing and can go well with western as well as oriental dresses. It remains a favorite with women of all ages. These Silk Scarves are worn on or near the head, for warmth, fashion, cleanliness, or religious purposes. In dry, dusty climates, or in environments where there is a lot of airborne contaminants, a thin scarf is often worn over the head to keep the hair clean.
This is my second shawl from ShalinIndia and it is
just as beautiful as the first one. It also arrived very quickly. I
will definitely order from again.
Beautiful craftsmanship, excellent quality at a
competitive price, and honorable business practices. ShalinIndia worked
hard to make geography a non-issue; it was as if I were shopping
locally.
I appreciated the extra care with the packaging.
With the item coming from the location it did...I was grateful for the
extra attention. The little postcard with a message and discount code
for next order was a hit with me...now that is what you call EXCELLENT
customer service...
The couching of gold and silver metel thread, known as mukke ka kaam, produces stunning embroideries that are used a great deal in this region. Mukka is the local name for metallic (gold or silver) thread wound around a core of cotton fibre. Both golden and silver mukka is used in this embroidery. The metal thread is doubled, laid on the fabric and couched down by stitching with another thread. The couching is skilfully executed so as to reveal the maximum surface area of the metallic yarn. In addition to couching, various other stitches like the buttonhole and outline stitches are also employed for filling in the designs.
The artisan sketches the design on the cloth and uses a black thread to fill in the outline. A mirror is attached in the centre of the motif, with the mukka couched around it. Mukka work is combined with other styles of embroidery, which are used to fill in the background cloth. The final outcome is a very rich and colourful piece of embroidery in geometric designs. Zigzag patterns stars, and triangles are especially popular designs. The local names for motifs and designs are derived from everyday objects, like funi, a sweet, patasha, a white sugar disc, chaukri, courtyard and Garbo, a box. It is most often seen on kanchlis, wall hangings and purses.
I was amazed at how soft the material is. It
compliments my shearling coat beautifully. In the future I plan to
purchase another one, in black, to match another shearling jacket.
The package arrived as expected and I was very
pleased with the quality of the merchandise. I will definitely use the
company again.
Can't believe it came so quickly - about 5 days
after order. It looks like the free gift wrap was torn during packaging
of the item.
Goddess Durga is an incarnation of Devi or the Mother Goddess, a unified symbol of all divine forces. Maa Durga represents the power of the Supreme Being that preserves moral order and righteousness in the creation.
These statues depict the Goddess Durga, who is the warrior spirit of the Divine Mother in Hinduism. She embodies the Feminine Creative energy, and is thus known as Shakti. Durga is a fearsome goddess, and she is most famously known for destroying the demon Mahishasur (known as one of the Asuras, or demigods).

Pure pashmina scarfs,
shawls and stoles are woven from the soft fleece (pashm) of the neck and the
under belly of ibex (capra hircus) that thrives in the remote regions of Ladakh
and Tibet plateaux. The high altitude, combined with the mountain goats meager
diet and inherent genetics, enable it to grow a coat of wool which is among the
finest and warmest on earth. The animal is not harmed in this process, the hairs
being removed through combing; but only small amounts can be obtained, as little
as five ounces from one animal in one year. A single shawl can take the wool
from five to six goats. Wrap yourself in pashmina scarf and you will never want
to take it off.
